We are planning to meet at the large Spanish water fountain at Huizenga Park.  Let’s all try to wear Cornell attire!

This year marks the 14th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.  The Cornell Club of Fort Lauderdale and Boca is participating in the Tunnel to Towers 5K in Fort Lauderdale, FL on September 13th, 2015 to honor those who died in the attacks.  On that day, we lost 20 Cornellians who, during their time at Cornell, served as a captain of the football team, an All-American lacrosse player, a fraternity president, a member of the equestrian team and more. All walked along the same paths we did, all dealt with the brutal Ithaca winters, all were beloved Cornellians.

EVERYONE IS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND- Cornell alumni, significant others, friends, family (both young and old), runners, run/walkers, walkers

Event: Tunnel to Towers run & walk 5K (3.1 miles)
Date: Sunday, September 13th, 2015
Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL — Huizenga Park
Time: 7:30 am

We have created a fundraising team, named “Cornell Club” in order to raise money for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001.

·         All proceeds will go towards the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The goal of the Foundation is to continue Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members. Building for America’s Bravest, a program of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, constructs specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members.

Please also make sure to click “join” on the Facebook event titled “Cornell Club: Tunnel to Towers 5K”.

Annual Student Send Off

Group Photo from 2014 Student Send Off

It will be held at the Home of Cristina Gonzalez DiCalvo, MEn ’82.

Event Cost: $20 for Alumni and Guests

Please RSVP though this link:

Every year, local Cornell clubs across the country get together and host a Student Sendoff for incoming and current students and their parents. It’s a great way to welcome the new students, give them some sage advice from alumni who have learned the “tricks of the trade,” and to all-around have a great time enjoying the end of the wonderful summer we have here in South Florida.

A great selection of food and dessert will be provided in this “Backyard BBQ” styled event. Additionally, we’ll be setting up some fun games, raffles for Cornell Store gift cards, and a little informal Q&A for anyone who has questions that others could benefit from hearing about. Especially as South Floridians, it is our duty to inform our fellow warm-blooded community how to dress warmly up there! Dress attire is casual and light, since there will be things set up outside. Also, please share this event announcement to any fellow Cornell alumni, as well as family and friends interested in attending as your guests.

We look forward to seeing you on August 1st!
